Error message when you try to open or save an e-mail attachment in Outlook: "Cannot create file" |

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to open or save an e-mail attachment, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot create file: file name. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in and click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.
CAUSEThis issue may occur when the Temporary Internet Files folder is stored on a server on which you do not have sufficient permissions.
RESOLUTIONWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. To resolve this issue, force Outlook to use a specific folder for temporary files. Modify the relevant Windows Registry key as follows:
